Used Batting Gloves
Why is it that batter's are allowed to use batting gloves, pine tar and elbow equipment and shin guards, but
the pitchers can't use emory boards, vaseline or spit to get an extra grip or tweak on the ball. You look at MLB players like Barry Bonds, Mo Vaughn (retired), and many others who had/have all of this body armor and they wind up crowding the plate more and it gives them an advantage. But the pitchers aren't allowed to have an advantage??? Well some might call an advantage cheating, but isn't it cheating when Craig Biggio would use all of that body armor to stand in there more and get hit? But, a pitcher can't use a little spit for a spit ball? Where is the line that runs between cheating and having an advantage?
It's 2 different situations altogether. A batter wears it for protection. They also use gloves and pine tar to prevent the bat from slipping out of their hands.
As long as the rules permit that it is going to be allowed.
It is a good question however.
Look back at the old days when batters wore nothing, and pitchers probably did use a spitter.
