Over the past few weeks in college football, the rankings have shifted around like a game of musical chairs. 11 of the preseason's top 25 teams no longer hold the honor of being in the highest echelon of college football. They have since been replaced by some up and coming teams; namely South Florida, Kentucky, BC, South Carolina, Oregon, Missouri, Arizona State, Cincinnati, Purdue, Kansas State and Clemson. But, as a die hard fan, I keep asking myself who from that list has what it takes to stay in the top 25. Are they here to stay or are they simply riding a surprising and brief run of luck? The following is an analysis of who among these teams are true contenders and who are pretenders.

1. Oregon - This team is definitely a contender. Coming from a very talented conference that boasts 4 teams in the top 25 and a very good UCLA Bruins team, the Ducks have shown that they can flat out play. Had it not been for a bit of bad luck against Cal, they very well could be undefeated and in the top 5 in the nation.

2. Clemson - This is a bit of a toss up. The Tigers are 4-1 right now, only losing to a very good Georgia Bulldogs squad. Yes, they did beat Florida State who is usually a football powerhouse. However, the rest of their wins have come against sub-par opponents. The Tigers can stake a claim to their contender status by beating Virgina Tech this week.

3. South Carolina - Like Oregon, the Gamecocks are here to stay. They are currently 4-1. But, they lost to LSU who is virtually unstoppable at the moment. Also, they handed the Bulldogs their only defeat of the season, in Georgia no less. That's impressive. SC has a tough road ahead with 3 top 25 teams in the near future, but I think they are good enough to weather the storm.

4. South Florida - The Bulls are seeing red at the moment. Fresh off of their win against West Virginia, USF looks very good. However, they are a pretender. The Bulls have been very opportunistic this season, beating the mountaineers and Auburn, but their schedule is going to prove too difficult for this Cinderella.

5. Boston College - The Eagles have definitely had a flying start to their season. At 5-0 they are playing some impressive football. But wasn't that expected. Aside from Georgia Tech (who has been a little disappointing themselves), the Eagles haven't really played anyone worth mentioning. Don't get me wrong, BC is a good football team. But with Miami, Florida State, Clemson and Virginia Tech looming in the distance, they may not end up with a good enough record to make a bowl game.

6. Kentucky - The Wildcats have literally come from left field in 2007. Were they even on the radar in preseason? UK is having a dream season at the moment, beating two very good football teams in Louisville and Arkansas. But, look at who they have left to play - LSU, South Carolina, Florida and Georgia. Again, like BC, the Wildcats are a good team. But it is unlikely that they will stay in the top 25 for long.

7. Arizona State - Yes, the Sun Devils are 5-0. Yes, the Sun Devils beat a good Colorado team. But are they a top 25 team? NO!!! The facts are pretty straight forward. They play Cal, UCLA, Oregon, Washington and USC during the second half of the season. There are few teams, if any, who could withstand that kind week in and week out battering.

8. Kansas State - Contender. While Kansas State has only proven their mettle in one game this season (41-21 win vs Texas), they don't have that tough of a schedule in the upcoming weeks. If they can past Colorado, it will be smooth sailing until they meet Nebraska and Missouri. The Cornhuskers and Tigers are both tough teams, but I have a feeling that Kansas State will prove to be tough themselves.

9. Missouri - Let's face it. The Tigers are a good team. But are they top 25 material? In the past maybe, but not this year. They will not be good enough to get past Nebraska or Oklahoma. Then, to have any kind of noteworthy record, the Tigers would have to get past Texas A&M, Kansas State and Colorade - all good teams. In my opinion, it is just not going to happen.

10. Cincinnati - Major Pretender. This is an easy one. While the Bearcats have been averaging over 46 points per game, they've done it against teams my high school could probably beat. They are not going to get past WVU, USF, Louisville or Rutgers. They may not even make a bowl game.

11. Purdue - This once great football team has been rather shabby in recent years. This year is no different. Like most other Top 25 Cinderellas, the Boilermakers have had an easy road thus far. But, can they keep it up against the Buckeyes? Not likely. Are they going to beat a Michigan team that is playing with a chip on its shoulder. Probably not. It is going to be a long season for Purdue, unless they come up with some huge performances.

When all is said and done, you have to give it to these teams for performing as well as they have this year. But, let's face it. Nature is going to run its course. It is going to be survival of the fittest and like always, the bigger, better teams are going to ruin the fairy tale. Prediction: Oregon and South Carolina will stay in the top 25 and Kansas State has a chance as well. But the rest of the lot will be no where to be seen at the end of the season.

These are predominately African American schools, also known as HBCUs or Historically Black Colleges and Universities, that play in the (Mid Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) of the Football Championship Subdivision or FCS, which up until 2005 was known as Division 1-AA. Life as a Little League or Pony League catcher can be tough. You can read baseball tips on this, baseball tips on that, do drill for this and train for that. Listen to this person, listen to that person. Try this and try that.

But still, you find yourself not throwing many people out in games. It seems like there are always balls getting by you and going back to the backstop. You may have gotten whacked way more times than you'd like by wild pitches. Long games and hot games. Is catching really worth it?

Well, fear not young catchers! Here are a few baseball tips and advice for you on why you should hang in there if you really like catching.

Right now at your age in Little League or Pony League there are things going on that you really have no control over. This makes catching seem impossible at times. It can be discouraging to young catchers because at this age and in these leagues success doesn't come often. You're not throwing a lot of people out, balls are flying everywhere (and hitting you) and you many times feel like you're the catcher only because no one else is stupid enough to do it. Well, those things may be true right now, but here are some things to consider:

• In Little League and Pony League the bases are pretty short. When someone takes off, you're relying on a good pitch from the pitcher, a perfect throw from you and a perfect catch and tag from the second baseman or shortstop. These things don't happen routinely in Little League and are just getting better in Pony League.
• Kids are bigger, stronger and faster these days. Look at the Little League World Series this year. They moved the fence back a good distance because the home runs keep increasing and there are just too many. (yes, those high tech bats played a role too!) My point is, the bases are short and there are a lot of fast runners. This is not a good combination for throwing runners out.
• Many young pitchers at these ages throw a lot of balls and wild pitches. You need good pitches to have any chance at all of throwing someone out. Wild pitches and runners advancing easily can be discouraging You can catch, but you can't pitch and catch. So you are at the mercy of the pitcher too.
• Young pitchers don't always know how to hold runners well or perform good pick-off moves to keep runners honest. Watch a Pony League game sometime. Smart runners will be more than half way down to second base by the time the catcher gets the ball. There's nothing you can do here. Just do your best.

So if you are a young catcher and get a little bit discouraged from time to time, remember these baseball tips and keep your head up.

You can't control the pitched ball. It's going to go where it's going to go. What you need to do is become very, very good at blocking the ball. So what if you don't pop up and throw the runner out. That time will come. Just focus on becoming a technically good blocking catcher. This will always make you stand out from other catchers and this becomes even more true as you get older.

Throwing runners out? If it happens, great! But, what you want to do is develop fast, correct footwork instead of worrying too much about how many people you throw out. Learn correct footwork and practice it over and over and develop a technically correct delivery to second base. Wait and see what happens once the bases become 90 feet apart. You'll be amazed.

Work on other things like:

• Handling bunts, or choppers in front of the plate
• Footwork to block home plate on throws from the outfield. Again, the Little League World Series had great plays at home this year.
• Handling passed balls

Also, and very important, work on that thing sitting on top of your shoulders! Be confident, know that you are a good catcher and believe in yourself and your ability.

When those bases become 90 feet apart, the whole game changes for catchers. If you really worked on being technically good, fast feet and good delivery, you'll throw a lot of people out because now your pitchers and fielders are also much better.

Block everything. People will notice you for this. This will separate you from other catchers. This is true right into High School. Lazy catchers who won't block balls will sit at that point, regardless of their arm strength.

Consider these baseball tips that you've just read young catchers. Stick with it. It will pay off and catching will become a lot more fun once the bases are 90 feet. Just be ready and prepared with your skills when this time comes. And when it does, those same kids that might have thought you were stupid for catching years ago will look to you for the big play, the bases loaded block of a wild pitch, or the big throw that turns the game around. This is when you'll realize that it was all worth it...being a catcher. The BEST position to play!

She had been sitting by the stream behind the cabin for an hour or so dwelling upon her life. She said a little prayer and got up to pack and go home. The weekend was over. He was strong, pulling himself out of the water on shore and he was standing when she got to him. "Are you alright, what can I do?" He coughed while saying "Lady, I am super alright. Five minutes ago I knew I was dead".

She said, "Without a doubt that is the most amazing thing I have ever seen or shall ever see again. Come to the cabin and sort yourself out. I have a cell phone I am sure you need right now. The pilot of the plane you jumped from also believes you were dead, surely."

She finished packing while he was on the phone and was ready to go when he finished. She drove him to the little airfield nearby. They chatted a bit on the way and he was gone back to his life. She was bothered by this episode in her life for a couple of weeks.

Of course she had told her Mother and folks at work, plus it was in the local paper on the front page. Finally she told her close friend at work. "Mary I am troubled and when I tell you why please don't laugh at me.

Before that man fell out of the sky practically in my lap I had just finished a prayer asking that I would meet a nice man." Mary looked stunned. Mary believed in signs and omens and of course she jumped all over this. "Betty, My God, he was sent to you from heaven!" Mary ranted on and on so that night she called her mother. Her Mother asked her Father and her Father asked the Minister. The Minister, called Mary.

It was every one's considered opinion that Mary get in touch with this man and just be up front and tell him the story. Betty thought, "Good grief, how embarrassing is that?" She called that little airfield and asked for Ron saying who she was so she could ask for his phone number. The man there said Ron was wondering how to find her. He was wanting to speak to her. Ron was expected this afternoon, so Betty gave her cell number. When he called he wanted to thank her by taking her to dinner if she was free to go. Mary waited until the third date to tell him about her prayer.

LAL vs. Minn

the wolves are heavily overmatched in this one, at least on paper. but the wolves have been playing semi-competitively lately, and al jefferson still needs to be stopped. LA will still win this, but it may be closer than it looks on paper, especially if jefferson gets his way against gasol.

Atl. vs. Charlotte

Charlotte's been playing horribly lately, and the hawks are actually not that bad of a team. Charlotte doesnt have a real answer for josh smith, while on the flip side joe johnson can hang with richardson and even al horford can hold his own against okafor. Atlanta wins.

Denver vs. Orlando

Howard will probably come out with more intensity than usual after being called out by SVG. but denver has been on a tear lately and camby can at least slow him down. AI and Melo will outscore Turkoglu and Lewis. Denver wins.

SA vs. Cleveland

This will be close. right now the spurs have to rely a lot on duncan and ginobili to get their points because of the absence of parker, and stoudamire is still adjusting to the new team. lebron will be fired up to play against the spurs, and its in cleveland, so i think cleveland wins in a game that stays close the entire way.

NJN vs. Toronto

no jason kidd, nets will be shorthanded. without kidd, the nets will have an awful time trying to take on the likes of bosh and calderon. Toronto easily.

Memphis vs. Philly

memphis is simply not a very good team, and philly is playing fairly well right now. andre miller is playing out of his mind and darko is not the answer against sam dalembert. philly wins.

New york vs. Boston

paul pierce has been on a tear, and new york, though theyve been playing better of late, just doesnt have the team cohesiveness to take down boston. boston wins courtesy of another big game from the truth.

indiana vs. detroit

danny granger is playing well, and mike dunleavy has been having a good year, but this is detroit, at detroit, who boasts one of the best starting 5's in the league. detroit wins.

NO vs. milwaukee

bucks still struggling even with redd back so mo williams has to pick up the slack, plus charlie v got injured. chris paul and david west are too much for them. New orleans wins.

Sac vs. Houston

houston is on a tear since t-mac came back, and it's at houston. sacramento is playing fairly well now that everyone's back, but yao and t-mac are too much. mikki moore and brad miller don't match up well against yao and luis scola. houston wins.

Portland vs. Dallas

dallas will be shorthanded due to the trade, and they havent been playing very well lately either. portland really relies on brandon roy; without roy this team really isn't the same. portland wins.

phoenix vs. golden state

obviously one of the funner games on the docket tonight. but phoenix is the more resilient of the teams in my opinion, and amare stoudemire has been a force since marion left; biedrins can't really match up to him. baron davis will give phoenix fits too, but the suns have the mental composure to pull out a win here.

utah vs. seattle

kevin durant needs to learn shot selection. once he does, he'll be a real force in the league. but for now, there arent many teams in the league, let alone seattle, that can stop carlos boozer and deron williams. utah wins

washington vs. LAC

washington is really struggling right now, especially without caron butler. the clippers arent doing great either though. it'll take a lot for washington to pull out a game here with only antawn jamison; they'll need a good game from blatche and either roger mason or haywood. clippers have more weapons, but need to be able to shoot from outside. if they can, kaman will be a handful. clippers win.

According to Baseball-Reference.com, the 10 players whose career stats most closely resemble those of Dale Murphy are, in descending order: Joe Carter, Duke Snider, Don Baylor, Ron Santo, Gil Hodges, Johnny Bench, Ruben Sierra, Jack Clark, Ellis Burks and George Foster.

Snider and Bench are in the Hall of Fame. Santo and Hodges should be, but aren't. Carter, in my opinion, is a near-miss player as far as the Hall is concerned. Baylor and Burks were very good players, but fall well short. Sierra, Clark and Foster were all on the way, but tailed off dramatically and will never make it.

Murphy had his last good year at age 35 and then barely played, just like Clark. And the lack of postseason performances (only one Division Title, no Pennants) hurts Murphy.

He was a very good player from age 22 to 25, a great one from 26 to 31, a very good one again from 32 to 35, and that was it. That's admirable, but it's not "complete dominance of the 1980s," and it's not enough to get him into the Hall of Fame.

I have a 1903 gold 5 dollar liberty coin and I was wondering what the value might be. It appears to be in very good shape. It has the liberty lady on the front and an eagle on the back.There are not any coin appraisal places in the town where I live, so any information would be helpful.

There are 2 1903 half eagles, one is just dated 1903 the other is a 1903-S, there is an S below the eagle. The S stands for the San Francisco mint. Both are priced the same but the one with out the S is scarcer. In grade very fine the value is $155 and as the grades get higher it's value in Mint state 60 is $185.
