Is working at the Angelika Film Center worth it for a college graduate?

I recently graduated college in May, and the economy is pretty bad to the point where I can't even find a job that requires a degree. A month ago, I applied for some retail jobs, as well as the Angelika Film Center. It is an arthouse theatre, and the manager e-mailed me back yesterday to schedule for an interview. While any job at this point is fine, I think about how similar it is to a movie theatre--sweeping, tearing off ticket stubs, working concession--and being a college graduate, I think it's kind of pathetic to have to work a teenager's job, but at the same time, it sounds like a good experience to work at an arthouse theatre.

I'm really having a hard time finding jobs that require a degree, so what should I do? Should I accept the job and get paid a measly $7.50, or keep my "dignity" and look for better jobs?

There is absolutely no loss of dignity in working at a theater. Honestly, just be glad you can get a job and pay your bills. Accept the job, but feel free to keep looking on the side.

Baseball injuries usually do not end a player's career. However, any injury can be a setback. With proper care and knowledge beforehand, the player will know what to look for, and will return to normal activities in a shorter amount of time.

The top seven baseball injuries that will plague most baseball players are described below.

1. Shoulder Injury

Throwing or hitting a baseball utilizes the entire physical body. A shoulder injury is normally associated with an arm and shoulder injury of the pitching or throwing arm and shoulder. In medical terminology, a baseball player's common shoulder injury is a torn Rotator Cuff. Pitchers are most prone to suffer from this injury, but anyone who plays baseball can become afflicted with a shoulder injury.

2. Sprained Wrist

A sprained wrist injury demands special attention so that the swelling and pain can subside. A sprained wrist injury rarely lasts for more than a few days since the wrist is so flexible and pliable. Should a player take a tumble or have to chase a fast dropping line drive hit, he could easily suffer from a sprained wrist.

Sometimes when a player is running for a base, he'll slide into the base and sprain his wrist. It hurts and it will swell, but most likely, the wrist will not get broken. Within a few days after cold compresses have been applied, and the wrist is later soaked in warm water, the wrist will be fine, and the baseball player will be ready to participate in his next game.

3. Dislocated or Broken Fingers

When a baseball player's glove webbing is improperly aligned at the moment when a ball impacts the glove, the player's fingers and hands will sting. However, most players will tell you that catching a ball with an ungloved hand can feel like being shot with a high-powered arrow.

Whenever a finger is exposed at any angle other than in an open and flexed state, the player will feel his finger joints getting crunched, dislocated, or broken. Catchers and infielders are the most common players to receive such finger injuries, but it can happen to any player, regardless of the position they're playing.

4. Hyper-extended Knee

When a baseball player grabs a fly ball out of the air, he is most certainly prone to suffering from a hyper-extended knee injury.

Whenever a player's foot lands awkwardly after he has lunged for a fly ball, the knee joint takes the bulk of the landing. Although he may show the other players that he can walk off the immediate hurt, his knee joint will be sore for days.

When that same player pays attention to his knee's soreness, he will recover quickly. However, if the player aggravates the injury by playing several more innings, or another game within a day or two, the injury will worsen and the pain will reappear.

Another way that a player can hyper-extend his knee is when his spikes get jammed into a base that's fixed into place. The knee joint could twist in the wrong direction, thereby causing the knee to hyper extend.

5. Pulled Hamstring

Even the most in-shape and toned baseball player who appears to have strong muscled legs can be prone to suffering from a pulled hamstring when he's running at break-neck speed to catch a ball or run a base.

Mickey Mantle's entire career and Albert Pujols's existing career have been fraught with hamstring muscle pull problem injuries. The injuries are painful, and the player will most likely need to take some time off to heal, but his career will not be ended due to a pulled hamstring.

6. Sore Elbow

Whenever a baseball player throws a ball hard to one of his teammates, he becomes susceptible to a sore elbow injury the same day or the next day. Sore elbows heal fairly rapidly, so there's no need for medical attention, except to remember to reduce the velocity that a player throws the ball the next time he's out on the field. A sore elbow is caused when the player suddenly stops or slows down the fling. That action is known to cause stress at the elbow's bone joint.

7. Bruises on Legs and Hips

When a baseball player does not wear sliding pads, he is quite vulnerable to receiving big bruises and strawberries on his legs and hips from sliding into a base. The painful part comes when a well-meaning attendant tries to apply any medication that contains alcohol or witch hazel in it. You'll be sure to hear the player's screams from many fields away.

Bruises will change colors and are certainly sensitive to the touch, but they're not the most serious injury a player can receive. So, try to remain tough when you look in the mirror after the game and see raw fleshy spots. Within four or five days, the tenderness will be gone, and most likely the color of the bruise will have faded away.

Next, to view a baseball sports card of Mickey Mantle or Albert Pujols when they were not injured, you can take a look at some of their more valuable cards located at this site: http://www.americaspastime.com

I Have lots of Sports cards like Baseball, Hockey, Football and Basketball all TOPPs from 1989. 3,500 Cards to sell.

You wont like my answer....

Things have changed dramatically since the 60's and 70's. For a quick background: In the 80's, mainly 90's baseball truly changed from a game to a huge money making business. Fueled by Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire, Griffey Jr. and eventually Barry Bonds, the MLB and everything it effected felt the positive economic effects of the great homerun race. That included Tickets prices, and hotels & restaurants near stadiums. Franchise's reached the billion dollar plateau and things were going great. Baseball cards, a long time baseball tradition were becoming more popular than ever before. More interest equals more sales, more sales means more cards were produced. To make a long story short, card were vastly over produced from the late 80's into the 90's. True collectors saw little value in the new waves of cards and the they seemed to be becoming children toys rather than collectors items.

So, game-used bat-jersey-glove-ball-pants etc. cards were introduced (value began to increase). Sereal Numbered cards sprand up (1/250, 1/100, 1/1) Autos and Chrome cards also became popular. Come 2000-2003 things were going well in the baseball card industry again. Serious collectors re-emerged and card values began to rise, more rapidly than ever. Within the last year or two 1/1 Printing plates and "REDEMPTION" cards have been introduced.

So if your card collection is based around 1989, im sorry to say its almost not worth the card board its printed on..

Good luck thou

Baseball Card Collecting is seen by many as just a hobby. Incidentally very many people take this "hobby" very seriously. This individuals spend a lot of time and several thousand dollars on getting a hold of this cards and maintaining them. Baseball is considered as the number one pastime for fans in the United States of America. A number of those fans are avid Baseball card collecting folks.

There are so many sporting games in the world and the fan base is in the millions. Memorable moments are always turned into cards which always fetch a handsome amount. There are several companies that have taken up the job of getting hold of and selling baseball cards. One such company that is trusted in baseball card collecting and distribution is known as the Topps Company. If you are into collecting baseball cards as a hobby or as a business then Topps Company will be able to get you those precious and mint condition baseball cards of your favorite heroes.

Baseball cards bring back all those memories of your heroes, great moments back in time that you will never forget. When looking back with friends and family, baseball cards remind you that the game is beautiful and memorable. One thing you have got to look out for is the authenticity of the cards you are purchasing. There are many counterfeit cards in the market out there and you have to use the some identification methods to help you curb fakes. Some of them are individual licensed numbers, authentication tags and holographic emblems.

Once upon a time, I was a broke college kid who sold his sports cards for way too little to pay the bills. I miss those cards!

Now I'm older and have kids of my own. I miss the Big Red Machine and the Old Dodgers...I miss my old familiar faces of my youth and want to purchase them...what's the best way to buy complete sets of all the Topps Cards...baseball, basketball and football?

Anyone know any sports collector shops in bankruptcy?

Buy a Tuff Stuff magazine and check the ads. Visit your local sports card stores and see what they have. Check on craigslist and eBay.

As far as bankrupt shops, other collector shops would have first bid on those stocks.

If your motocycle has a side car you do not need a motocyle license to drive it. So does the helmet law apply to a motocyle with a side car?

That's all going to depend on where you are.
Helmet laws do apply.
Adding a sidecar does not change the classification of the vehicle. It's still a motorcycle.
And you need a Motorcyle license to operate it.

That's the way it is in NH. Some states have an additonal license requirement for the sidecar. WA is one, I think.

Do you want to feel like your are driving the exotic super car of your dreams? One step in that direction is to have the interior of your car fitted out with a carbon fiber dash trim kit.

The top sports cars in the world, like the Ferrari Enzo, use carbon fiber in their composition. And manufactures like Ferrari leave the fiber visible in the cockpit. Other manufacturers like Mercedes build their super cars like the SL65 AMG Black out of this material. So start your dream by installing a carbon fiber dash kit.

It's not very hard to install and if you take your time you should be able to do a professional job of installation. The key is to read over the installation instructions very carefully and follow each step. Remember the old saying about "haste makes waste". You want your car to really look sharp - so relax and take your time.

There are a variety of different carbon fiber dash kits around. Many different brands of kits can be found with simple searches. You should be looking for one that offers some or all of the following:

- Laser cutting of the material, to insure perfect dimensions and an exact fit.

- Protection from harmful UV rays. This is some type of overcoat on the dash material.

- Complete instructions on how to install.

- A guarantee for the life of the car, which will protect you from fading, peeling and other potential problems.

- A simple way to attach the carbon fiber overlay to your dash. Some kits use double sided adhesive and other trim kits have you apply an adhesive directly to your car's dash.

- A kit that gives you all of the individual pieces that you need for your application.

- A dash kit that was created for your brand, year, and model of car, from the OEM specifications.

Remember that the carbon fiber will give your car a high tech and racy look. You should also look around for other accessories that will complement this new image.

A small sports car and a pickup truck start coasting down a 12.1 m hill together, side by side. The mass of the sports car is 636 kg and the mass of the pickup truck is 1272 kg (twice the mass of the sports car). Assuming no friction or air resistance, what is the kinetic energy of each vehicle at the bottom of the hill? HINT: How does the kinetic energy of a vehicle at the bottom of the hill compare to the potential energy of the vehicle at the top of the hill? Use your answer to this hint to guide your strategy.

(a) What is the kinetic energy of the sports car?
J
(b) What is the kinetic energy of the pickup truck?

I have a bunch of starting lineup figures, mostly baseball, from their introductory year, and second year as well. At one point, I heard they were worth alot of money? Does anybody know if they still are? I have some football and basketball as well. Thanks

Check Ebay.....another place, is got to a local book store (Borders or Barnes & Noble). Look for a magazine called "Tuff Stuff". Its a sports card & collectibles price guide. Starting Line Ups will be in there..

Being a sports cards and memorabilia collector for over 10 years I can tell you that what you have is very valuable. You're looking at about $200 I'd say. Possibly a bit more being that Rivera is a hard autograph to acquire. I would send it to an authenticator because it really isn't valuable until it has been authenticated. I would send it to Beckett. Beckett is a great authenticator, one of the top 2 in the business. The use James Spence as their autograph authenticator. Go to Beckett.com to get a form to send in your card.

Awesome card! Wish I had one.

Good question!

This collection had tons of auto baseballs with COA s and good rookie cards that look like they'll be some money one day and i know its worth atleast double that ampount but was this a good idea for me b/c I'm trying to invest a little to gain a little but is thisa smart move for me or not b/c I still have time to change my mind..Help me and tahnks a bucnh and I plan on selling these in the future if I buy! I only getting rookies and auto baesball cards and balls that are sign by Tori Hunter and some other stars but nio many of them but the cards are at good valuse and shape b/c they coming from a old card dealer who was looking for some quick money and I did'nt screw him obver but i just felt like this is agreat oopruntunity to make someney or was it?

Buying sports cards as an investment is normally not a good idea. If you know what you're buying and feel you can make a reasonable profit on a resell within a short period of time it's probably OK. I have been an avid sports card collector for over 20 years and I've seen prices rise and fall. Investment cards for the old cards prior to 1980 are the best investment if the quality of the card is nrmt or better.
