When you buy sport memorabilia it's important to look for delayed gratification. In other words, if it's profit you're looking for with your sports memorabilia then it's highly likely that you'll need to put some time between your purchase and when it comes time to sell.

Big sporting events such as the Super Bowl, Olympics or World Soccer Cup are breeding grounds for sporting memorabilia and it can take just a split second of brilliance from a player to suddenly make them a hot commodity.

In the US, many associate memorabilia of a sporting nature with baseball cards but that's just scratching the surface. Think of the term "sports" and then appreciate the umbrella it covers and the endless possibilities of collecting items that could prove to be gold in the future. Let's take a look at some sport memorabilia facts which will help you whether you're buying or selling.

Sports Memorabilia Facts

#1.. There are several reasons to sell and buy sports souvenirs on eBay. A major reason is the exposure that your products will receive on the international web. You'll have a vast number of potential purchasers or if you're trying to find something to buy, you'll have a vast array of items to choose from.

#2.. Ebay is an ideal place to look when you have looked everywhere else and haven't been capable of finding that one piece of sports souvenirs that you've always long for. The best thing about eBay is that when you sell and buy sports souvenirs on eBay some items are listed with an one off price and there is not any need to bid. Nonetheless there are more items that you need to bid on. Whatever the case you've got the option of employing a charge card to pay for your goods.

#3.. Youngsters can be keen collectors of sports mementos. What might begin as a present from a family member, an opportunity to essentially meet a player in the flesh at a game, or a kid seeing how much a parent idolized a famous sports figure, could start a lifetime journey into picking up an item that could pay off big time "later down the track.

#4.. The biggest non-public collection known of baseball artifacts was one held by NY Yankees fan Barry Halper. He used to be a minority owner of the Yankees. He started to sell off his collection in the latter 1990's. One of the more valuable items in his collection was a glove utilised by Lou Gehrig in his last game which brought $387,500! Halper also owned a glove utilized in 1960 by Mickey Mantle, which brought $239,000.

#5.. A collection of sports souvenirs frequently overlooked by the bulk of fans is that of postage stamps. These pleasure stamp collectors and sports fans alike.

#6.. If you're hunting for authentic products be certain that you are given a certificate to determine the validity. You can nearly be certain that what ever you're looking for, you will find but perhaps not at the price you are prepared to pay.

#7.. Appraisal is vital for serious sports memorabilia collectors. Many collectors have paid dearly simply because they did not get their items valued for price and then sold them for a small fraction of their worth. While appraisals are important for future reselling insurance of your collectibles is also important. Insurance corporations also may not recognize the worth unless you have had an assessment done. Ensure you have documented explanation.

#8.. Beware buying sport memorabilia like clothing that claim to contain sweat stains from the famous athletes that wore them. Sweat stains don't always make a jersey authentic. Any one can wear a jersey long enough to sweat in it and try and pass it off as the real deal. Watch for smudged autographs, dog-eared pages in books, worn edges on cards. A properly trained valuer will pick up on little detailing which can either add or detract value of your memorabilia.

Is working at the Angelika Film Center worth it for a college graduate?

I recently graduated college in May, and the economy is pretty bad to the point where I can't even find a job that requires a degree. A month ago, I applied for some retail jobs, as well as the Angelika Film Center. It is an arthouse theatre, and the manager e-mailed me back yesterday to schedule for an interview. While any job at this point is fine, I think about how similar it is to a movie theatre--sweeping, tearing off ticket stubs, working concession--and being a college graduate, I think it's kind of pathetic to have to work a teenager's job, but at the same time, it sounds like a good experience to work at an arthouse theatre.

I'm really having a hard time finding jobs that require a degree, so what should I do? Should I accept the job and get paid a measly $7.50, or keep my "dignity" and look for better jobs?

There is absolutely no loss of dignity in working at a theater. Honestly, just be glad you can get a job and pay your bills. Accept the job, but feel free to keep looking on the side.

Baseball injuries usually do not end a player's career. However, any injury can be a setback. With proper care and knowledge beforehand, the player will know what to look for, and will return to normal activities in a shorter amount of time.

The top seven baseball injuries that will plague most baseball players are described below.

1. Shoulder Injury

Throwing or hitting a baseball utilizes the entire physical body. A shoulder injury is normally associated with an arm and shoulder injury of the pitching or throwing arm and shoulder. In medical terminology, a baseball player's common shoulder injury is a torn Rotator Cuff. Pitchers are most prone to suffer from this injury, but anyone who plays baseball can become afflicted with a shoulder injury.

2. Sprained Wrist

A sprained wrist injury demands special attention so that the swelling and pain can subside. A sprained wrist injury rarely lasts for more than a few days since the wrist is so flexible and pliable. Should a player take a tumble or have to chase a fast dropping line drive hit, he could easily suffer from a sprained wrist.

Sometimes when a player is running for a base, he'll slide into the base and sprain his wrist. It hurts and it will swell, but most likely, the wrist will not get broken. Within a few days after cold compresses have been applied, and the wrist is later soaked in warm water, the wrist will be fine, and the baseball player will be ready to participate in his next game.

3. Dislocated or Broken Fingers

When a baseball player's glove webbing is improperly aligned at the moment when a ball impacts the glove, the player's fingers and hands will sting. However, most players will tell you that catching a ball with an ungloved hand can feel like being shot with a high-powered arrow.

Whenever a finger is exposed at any angle other than in an open and flexed state, the player will feel his finger joints getting crunched, dislocated, or broken. Catchers and infielders are the most common players to receive such finger injuries, but it can happen to any player, regardless of the position they're playing.

4. Hyper-extended Knee

When a baseball player grabs a fly ball out of the air, he is most certainly prone to suffering from a hyper-extended knee injury.

Whenever a player's foot lands awkwardly after he has lunged for a fly ball, the knee joint takes the bulk of the landing. Although he may show the other players that he can walk off the immediate hurt, his knee joint will be sore for days.

When that same player pays attention to his knee's soreness, he will recover quickly. However, if the player aggravates the injury by playing several more innings, or another game within a day or two, the injury will worsen and the pain will reappear.

Another way that a player can hyper-extend his knee is when his spikes get jammed into a base that's fixed into place. The knee joint could twist in the wrong direction, thereby causing the knee to hyper extend.

5. Pulled Hamstring

Even the most in-shape and toned baseball player who appears to have strong muscled legs can be prone to suffering from a pulled hamstring when he's running at break-neck speed to catch a ball or run a base.

Mickey Mantle's entire career and Albert Pujols's existing career have been fraught with hamstring muscle pull problem injuries. The injuries are painful, and the player will most likely need to take some time off to heal, but his career will not be ended due to a pulled hamstring.

6. Sore Elbow

Whenever a baseball player throws a ball hard to one of his teammates, he becomes susceptible to a sore elbow injury the same day or the next day. Sore elbows heal fairly rapidly, so there's no need for medical attention, except to remember to reduce the velocity that a player throws the ball the next time he's out on the field. A sore elbow is caused when the player suddenly stops or slows down the fling. That action is known to cause stress at the elbow's bone joint.

7. Bruises on Legs and Hips

When a baseball player does not wear sliding pads, he is quite vulnerable to receiving big bruises and strawberries on his legs and hips from sliding into a base. The painful part comes when a well-meaning attendant tries to apply any medication that contains alcohol or witch hazel in it. You'll be sure to hear the player's screams from many fields away.

Bruises will change colors and are certainly sensitive to the touch, but they're not the most serious injury a player can receive. So, try to remain tough when you look in the mirror after the game and see raw fleshy spots. Within four or five days, the tenderness will be gone, and most likely the color of the bruise will have faded away.

Life as a Little League or Pony League catcher can be tough. You can read baseball tips on this, baseball tips on that, do drill for this and train for that. Listen to this person, listen to that person. Try this and try that.

But still, you find yourself not throwing many people out in games. It seems like there are always balls getting by you and going back to the backstop. You may have gotten whacked way more times than you'd like by wild pitches. Long games and hot games. Is catching really worth it?

Well, fear not young catchers! Here are a few baseball tips and advice for you on why you should hang in there if you really like catching.

Right now at your age in Little League or Pony League there are things going on that you really have no control over. This makes catching seem impossible at times. It can be discouraging to young catchers because at this age and in these leagues success doesn't come often. You're not throwing a lot of people out, balls are flying everywhere (and hitting you) and you many times feel like you're the catcher only because no one else is stupid enough to do it. Well, those things may be true right now, but here are some things to consider:

In Little League and Pony League the bases are pretty short. When someone takes off, you're relying on a good pitch from the pitcher, a perfect throw from you and a perfect catch and tag from the second baseman or shortstop. These things don't happen routinely in Little League and are just getting better in Pony League.

Kids are bigger, stronger and faster these days. Look at the Little League World Series this year. They moved the fence back a good distance because the home runs keep increasing and there are just too many. (yes, those high tech bats played a role too!) My point is, the bases are short and there are a lot of fast runners. This is not a good combination for throwing runners out.

Many young pitchers at these ages throw a lot of balls and wild pitches. You need good pitches to have any chance at all of throwing someone out. Wild pitches and runners advancing easily can be discouraging You can catch, but you can't pitch and catch. So you are at the mercy of the pitcher too.

Young pitchers don't always know how to hold runners well or perform good pick-off moves to keep runners honest. Watch a Pony League game sometime. Smart runners will be more than half way down to second base by the time the catcher gets the ball. There's nothing you can do here. Just do your best.

So if you are a young catcher and get a little bit discouraged from time to time, remember these baseball tips and keep your head up.

You can't control the pitched ball. It's going to go where it's going to go. What you need to do is become very, very good at blocking the ball. So what if you don't pop up and throw the runner out. That time will come. Just focus on becoming a technically good blocking catcher. This will always make you stand out from other catchers and this becomes even more true as you get older.

Throwing runners out? If it happens, great! But, what you want to do is develop fast, correct footwork instead of worrying too much about how many people you throw out. Learn correct footwork and practice it over and over and develop a technically correct delivery to second base. Wait and see what happens once the bases become 90 feet apart. You'll be amazed.

Work on other things like:

Handling bunts, or choppers in front of the plate

Footwork to block home plate on throws from the outfield. Again, the Little League World Series had great plays at home this year.

Handling passed balls

Also, and very important, work on that thing sitting on top of your shoulders! Be confident, know that you are a good catcher and believe in yourself and your ability.

When those bases become 90 feet apart, the whole game changes for catchers. If you really worked on being technically good, fast feet and good delivery, you'll throw a lot of people out because now your pitchers and fielders are also much better.

Block everything. People will notice you for this. This will separate you from other catchers. This is true right into High School. Lazy catchers who won't block balls will sit at that point, regardless of their arm strength.

Consider these baseball tips that you've just read young catchers. Stick with it. It will pay off and catching will become a lot more fun once the bases are 90 feet. Just be ready and prepared with your skills when this time comes. And when it does, those same kids that might have thought you were stupid for catching years ago will look to you for the big play, the bases loaded block of a wild pitch, or the big throw that turns the game around. This is when you'll realize that it was all worth it...being a catcher. The BEST position to play!

Chico Reese has been closely involved in youth baseball, softball and High School Baseball over the last twelve years and enjoys working with young catchers.

I Have lots of Sports cards like Baseball, Hockey, Football and Basketball all TOPPs from 1989. 3,500 Cards to sell.

You wont like my answer....

Things have changed dramatically since the 60's and 70's. For a quick background: In the 80's, mainly 90's baseball truly changed from a game to a huge money making business. Fueled by Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire, Griffey Jr. and eventually Barry Bonds, the MLB and everything it effected felt the positive economic effects of the great homerun race. That included Tickets prices, and hotels & restaurants near stadiums. Franchise's reached the billion dollar plateau and things were going great. Baseball cards, a long time baseball tradition were becoming more popular than ever before. More interest equals more sales, more sales means more cards were produced. To make a long story short, card were vastly over produced from the late 80's into the 90's. True collectors saw little value in the new waves of cards and the they seemed to be becoming children toys rather than collectors items.

So, game-used bat-jersey-glove-ball-pants etc. cards were introduced (value began to increase). Sereal Numbered cards sprand up (1/250, 1/100, 1/1) Autos and Chrome cards also became popular. Come 2000-2003 things were going well in the baseball card industry again. Serious collectors re-emerged and card values began to rise, more rapidly than ever. Within the last year or two 1/1 Printing plates and "REDEMPTION" cards have been introduced.

So if your card collection is based around 1989, im sorry to say its almost not worth the card board its printed on..

Good luck thou

Baseball Card Collecting is seen by many as just a hobby. Incidentally very many people take this "hobby" very seriously. This individuals spend a lot of time and several thousand dollars on getting a hold of this cards and maintaining them. Baseball is considered as the number one pastime for fans in the United States of America. A number of those fans are avid Baseball card collecting folks.

There are so many sporting games in the world and the fan base is in the millions. Memorable moments are always turned into cards which always fetch a handsome amount. There are several companies that have taken up the job of getting hold of and selling baseball cards. One such company that is trusted in baseball card collecting and distribution is known as the Topps Company. If you are into collecting baseball cards as a hobby or as a business then Topps Company will be able to get you those precious and mint condition baseball cards of your favorite heroes.

Baseball cards bring back all those memories of your heroes, great moments back in time that you will never forget. When looking back with friends and family, baseball cards remind you that the game is beautiful and memorable. One thing you have got to look out for is the authenticity of the cards you are purchasing. There are many counterfeit cards in the market out there and you have to use the some identification methods to help you curb fakes. Some of them are individual licensed numbers, authentication tags and holographic emblems.

I bought a new pack of Topps Heritage cards, and I got Micky Mantle. I never get really good cards so i'm thinking it's a fake. How do I tell?

You burn it at the stake...if it lives, it's real.

Wait...is that baseball cards or witches?

That just might be witches.

Anywho, what year is the pack from? If it has a glossy coating and a gold stamp, then it's a re-print [not a fake, a re-print]. If it has a dull surface and no serial numbers or gold stamping, then you have a buy-back [where Topps buys cards on the secondary market and re-releases them with newer product.]

Is it guaranteed to make your card worth more? If so, how much?

I am not an expert, but I thought I would include this similar previous question for you. I do have some experience with other types of grading services. I would say: IF your card is authentic and in great shape, it will sell for more after certification, but I have no idea how much more. Maybe you could check on eBay.

actually devorak, he was practicing take offs and landings when he crashed at akron/canton airport in ohio. i went to school with his kids. he was from canton ohio. family is nice people..he was a gamer.

He was George Steinbrenner's 1st Warrior. Even before Paul O'Neill ever got the title of Warrior that was Thurman Munson. Don't sell that card at all. That man was one of the best ever not only as a ballplayer but as a man. He is still spoken about by Yankee fans in our Empire.
