I guess we all remember the original Dream Team which dominated all other teams in the 1992 Olympic Games. That team was probably the best basketball team ever and included legendary players such as Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and many more. They showed everyone where the best basketball in the world was (I guess that still is) played. 1994 and 1996 teams were also great and they captured the gold medals easily. In 2000 Olympics USA team was starting to lose its power. Although they still won the first place, their triumph was not so convincing. As the years went by more and more all-star players refused to play for the national team and USA have not won any major tournament since 2000.

USA basketball team was tested in the 2007 FIBA Americas tournament and it passed the test by beating everyone including Argentina (118-81) on its way to the first place. The lineup featured NBA all stars and they lived up to the expectations. They came up with great individual performances, unselfish teamwork and red hot shooting. That roster has changed but I guess that it has changed for good.

USA will never be able to combine a basketball team which could be compared to 1992 team but this 2008 team looks very impressive. It has everything starting from great defensive players (Tayshaun Prince, Jason Kidd), brilliant passers (Chris Paul, Deron Williams), all star scorers (Kobe Bryant, LeBron James) to super-athletic big men (Dwight Howard, Carlos Boozer). American players always have stronger bodies and greater upsides than their opponents and if Howard will cure his micro-injury then the Howard-Boozer-Bosh frontline is going to look scary. USA must play its best game to recapture the Olympic title and I think that the chances for them are good.

USA plays in group B together with Angola, China, reigning world champion Spain and two qualifiers. 12 teams are still fighting for an Olympic berth and only 3 of them will succeed. The favorites are Greece, Croatia, Germany, Slovenia, Puerto Rico and Brazil, and it is most likely that the two qualifier national teams which will play against USA in group B are going to be among them but we can never know for sure. I doubt that NBA players will meet any difficulties to beat Angola and China is not a very powerful opponent also. China national team has never been able to occupy a position higher than 8th in World Championships or Olympic games. Of course Yao is a serious power in the paint but I would suggest being more afraid of Pau Gasol. Spain is the main rival of the Americans during the group stage and maybe the whole tournament. With its organized playing style Spain is supposed to be a great thread to this NBA all star team and lets not forget about the two qualifiers, maybe USA will have to face Greece - the team which eliminated Americans from the FIBA World Championships just 2 years ago.

And in the end my prediction is that USA will capture the gold medals by beating Argentina with a rather big point margin in the final game. I predict that USA will win every game and the only tight game will be against Spain in group stage. I think that the leading scorer will be Carmelo Anthony; leading rebounder - Dwight Howard; leading passer - Chris Paul. Yes, maybe I am a bit too optimistic but I believe that this year USA will show everyone who rules the basketball world. Good luck!

Well we went 3-2 ATS with our BEST BETS last week, 11-4 ATS the last three weeks and 30-21 ATS for the season. We have some good ideas of what our picks will be this week, including the all important Thanksgiving games that everyone always wants to get right. Let's take a look at our first thoughts on this week's games.

THANKSGIVING GAMES

DALLAS 14 NY Jets: This is a huge line considering the Jets just came off a great win over the Steelers due to the nice boost QB Kellen Clemens has given the club. The Cowboys however always play well on Thanksgiving and their ability to play on a short week every year has to count for something.

Green Bay 3.5 DETROIT: Lions come off a tough loss at home to the Giants and they almost always play the Pack tough at home. They also are a home underdog in a game they are used to playing in. Green Bay meanwhile is 4-1 ATS in their last four against the Lions and they are looking quite unstoppable right now. ****THIS GAME HAS THE LOOK OF A POTENTIAL BEST BET.

Indianapolis 11.5 ATLANTA FALCONS: Colts continue to give high spreads despite the fact they are ravaged by injuries. The fatc they barely beat the Chiefs at home is worrisome. The Falcons however are dogs and they are starting to look like the might be laying down for the year.

SUNDAY

ARIZONA 10.5 San Francisco: I don't remmeber the last time the Cards gave this many points to anyone but the 49ers are a joke. Cards don't handle being large favorite though as they are a bad 4-15 ATS when giving more than 7.

CHICAGO off Denver: This game is off the board due to last night's game involving Denver but figure on the Bears giving a point or so. Both come off wins so this one could go either way.

CINCINNATI off Tennessee: This game is off due to the fact Tennessee played in last night's game. Figure on the Titans giving 3 or so which makes the Bengals a live underdog. Titans play the type of tough D Cincy yields to however.

CLEVELAND 3.5 Houston: Browns have been very tough at home but the extra half point is scary after the show the Texans put on last week. Houston has WR Andre Johnson back and he changes the whole dynamic of the offense.

JACKSONVILLE 7.5 Buffalo: Jags playing tough D and running the ball well which is a great recipe for success. They go through scoring droughts though and this is a tad high of a number for them. The Bills however have been terrible on the road and they could be down in the dumps after getting destroyed by the Pats.

KANSAS CITY 5.5 Oakland: Pick the Chiefs thats all I have to say. Oakland is a joke.

NEW ENGLAND off Philadelphia: This game is off due to the uncertain status of Eagles QB Donovan McNabb. If he plays Pats will be favored by 12 or so. If Feely plays then it goes to 16.5.

New Orleans 3 CAROLINA: Both teams are in the midst of losing streaks. Carolina is a great underdog 22-7 ATS but they have no production on offense right now and things don't look to be getting any better. Saints can score which should give them the advantage here but they certainly are questioning themselves after two terrible losses so they could be ripe for another loss.

NY GIANTS 7 Minnesota: Vikings are being kept afloat now by RB Chestor Taylor but the going will be tougher this week against a stout Giant D-Line. This is the type of game the Giants routinely play down to so watch for the overlook.

SAN DIEGO 9.5 Baltimore: The Chargers continue to give points based on last year's team. This line is way too high based on their shoddy performance this year so far. Baltimore is awful offensively however and they could be ready to throw coach Brian Billick under the bus.

Seattle 3 ST. LOUIS: Interesting game as both come in on winning streaks. Rams certainly will remember the beatdown they go at the hands of Seattle weeks ago and could use that as motivation. Seattle is gunning for a high playoff seed so don't look for a drop-off in intensity.

TAMPA BAY 3 WASHINGTON: Buc's will be tough at home here but Washington should be primed for a big game after dropping a tough one to Dallas.

PITTSBURGH 16 Miami: Wow this is a big line but the Steelers should dominate here.

The Falcons believed him and did not resign their #2 QB, Matt Schaub, who in turn signed with the Texans. Matt Schaub is a pretty good QB, and with him leaving the Falcons, they really have no one else to play the position. And it all started with Vicks lies.

Tracy Lamar McGrady, Jr. (born May 24, 1979 in Bartow, Florida), nicknamed T-Mac, is an American professional basketball player currently playing for the Houston Rockets in the National Basketball Association. A seven-time All-Star, McGrady was ranked #75 on SLAM magazine's Top 75 NBA Players Of All Time in 2003. He spent the first seven years of his career with the Toronto Raptors and Orlando Magic before being traded to the Rockets in 2004.

High school career
McGrady played all 5 positions in high school at Mt. Zion Christian Academy, and entered the NBA without attending college. He created national buzz after his performance in the Reebok ABCD Camp, to which the best high school players in the nation are invited annually. He was named high school Player of the Year by USA Today.

NBA career

Toronto Raptors (1997-2000)
Due in part to his strong showing at the ABCD camp, Tracy McGrady was selected ninth overall in the 1997 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors. Chicago Bulls GM Jerry Krause had arranged a draft-day trade to send Scottie Pippen to Toronto for the 9th overall pick, which he would have used to take McGrady. Krause decided not to make the deal when Michael Jordan threatened to retire if it was made.[citation needed]

McGrady often found himself in teammate and second cousin Vince Carter's shadow. While Carter was responsible for scoring, it was McGrady's job to be the team's defensive stopper and ball distributor. The duo of Carter and McGrady led the Raptors to their first playoff berth in the 2000 NBA Playoffs, but they were swept by the New York Knicks in 3 games. The two also participated in the 2000NBA Slam Dunk Contest.

Orlando Magic (2000-2004)
The Toronto Raptors made a sign-and-trade deal which sent McGrady to the Orlando Magic in exchange for a first round draft pick in 2000. In the 2000–01 season, he won the NBA Most Improved Player Award and was selected as a starter in the All-Star Game. In the 2002–03 season, McGrady averaged 32.1 points per game and captured the NBA scoring title, becoming the youngest player to do so since the NBA/ABA merger. In the 2003–04 season, he once again captured the NBA scoring title, averaging 28 points per game, and set a career high with 62 points against the Washington Wizards on March 10, 2004. With this performance, he became the fourth player in the past 12 years to score over 60 points in a game. Despite McGrady's personal accolades, the Magic had failed to reach the second round in the playoffs, and in his fourth season as a Magic, problems with team chemistry, coaching, and management forced Orlando into a downward spiral. The season ended with Orlando failing to reach the playoffs and an impatient McGrady seeking a possible trade.

Houston Rockets (2004-current)
On June 29, 2004, McGrady, Juwan Howard, Tyronn Lue, and Reece Gaines were traded to the Houston Rockets in a seven-player deal that sent Steve Francis, Cuttino Mobley, and Kelvin Cato to the Magic. In his first year in Houston, McGrady teamed with 7'6" center Yao Ming, to end the season ranked 5th in the Western Conference. On December 9, 2004, he scored 13 points in the last 35 seconds of a game against the San Antonio Spurs, with four consecutive 3 pointers (one of which was part of a four point play), including the game winning 3 pointer with 1.7 seconds left in the game. This helped the Rockets win 81-80.

Despite McGrady's play in the 1st round of the 2005 NBA Playoffs, Houston was eliminated in game seven by 40 points.

In the early 2005–06 season, McGrady missed eight games because of multiple back spasms. His back problems resurfaced on January 8, 2006 when he had to be taken out at halftime in a game against the Denver Nuggets on a stretcher to hospital because of severe back spasms. He had been out for five games. Since his return, the spasms have still been a problem for McGrady. In the 2005–06 season the Rockets were 2–15 in games he did not play in and 2–16 in games McGrady did not finish. While McGrady was injured for five games with his back injury, the Rockets did not win a single game. Other injuries include him falling on his tailbone in a game against the Indiana Pacers.

In the 2006-2007 NBA season, McGrady started out slowly, and after missing 7 games with back spasms he visited a doctor. In a recent interview with TNT, McGrady said that he thought that his body was slowing down. He believed that he could no longer be as explosive as he was in the past due to his back injury. Since Yao Ming was having another breakout season, he was deferring to Yao as the number one option.[1] However, since Yao went down with a leg injury, McGrady has stepped up his overall play, re-establishing himself as one of the game's premier players and by doing so has led Houston to the 5th best record in the league. Despite his recent shooting slump, he continues to find his teammates for the assist. He is currently averaging a career high in assists per game.

Their son was born December 27, 2005 during a 82-74 loss against the Utah Jazz in which McGrady left during halftime to see his girlfriend going into labor. The couple were married on September 12, 2006 in Mexico.[2] Tracy has stated that he and his teammate Yao Ming are close friends.[3] T-Mac and NBA superstar Vince Carter are second cousins. They played together in Toronto for two years, where McGrady often found himself playing in Carter's shadow.

McGrady is a seven time all star and has made the All NBA Team five times. McGrady is considered one of the most successful prep-to-pros players ever, following in the footsteps of Moses Malone, Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant and Jermaine O'Neal. Like several other popular basketball players, he has followed the footsteps of Michael Jordan with his own signature shoe line with Adidas. However, a common criticism of McGrady is the fact that none of his teams have ever advanced past the first round of the playoffs in his NBA career.

While McGrady has often been compared to Kobe Bryant due in part to their similar statistics, McGrady's skill set and style of play sets him apart from other players. He is well known for his head fakes and his ability to create plays off of a screen. During the 2002-03 season, the NBA tried to promote many NBA all-stars and compare them with past greats; they compared McGrady to the silky play of the finger-roll master, George Gervin.[4]

McGrady visited Seoul (South Korea), Guangzhou (China), Manila (Philippines), and Hong Kong in Summer 2006, to promote his exclusive Asia T-Mac 1 shoe. Despite this international trip, he refused to play in the Olympics of 2004 due to security concerns. He also has recently expressed that the NBA should not stage its All-Star game in New Orleans, because he feels he will not be safe there.

Who will win the Atlantic division in the NBA this year, what will be the Order?

The Atlantic Division has gained more than most. New York youngsters David Lee and Ronaldo Balkman emerging, and with a trade for 20-10 man Zach Randolph, Knicks should be better. Philidelphia ended the season strong and added some good youth to the mix. Boston landed All Star Ray Allen, to play with Paul Pierce and Al Jefferson, Tony Allen and Gerald Green should improve. Ney Jersey re-signed Vince Carter, and with walking triple double Jason Kidd, and Richard Jefferson along with Kristic back from surgery and hopefully S. Williams will step in as a frontcourt pressence or maybe they will sign Jamal Magloire. The Raptors who won the division will have all their players back and with the development of Andrea Bargnani, and the signing of 3 point specialist Jason Kapono, The Raptors will be in for quite a fight to retain the division crown this year. The Atlantic might be the best division this year in the East, as opposed to the laughing stock it was last year.

1. Toronto - They were clearly the best team last year, and now they're a year older with some playoff experience under their belt.
2. New Jersey - Assuming RJ returns. Kidd, Carter, Jefferson, and Krstic with help from youngsters Boone, Williams, Nachbar, and Wright are enough to vault them back into the playoffs, and maybe enough to compete in the regular season with the Rapts.
3. Boston - Sharpshooter Ray Allen rounds out a lethal offensive attack when teamed with Pierce and Jefferson. They still won't play acceptable defense, and Doc Rivers is still an idiot, but they'll have enough firepower to outscore enough opponents to win more games than Philly or New York.
4. Philadelphia - They played really well in the 2nd half of last season. Well enough for me to believe they're still better than the screwed up Knicks.
5. New York - Zack Randolph is no savior. They'll still suck. Teaming Randolph with Eddy Curry just makes them slower and dumber.

So it looks like another weekend of heavy rain in Boston.

This is, what, the 7th or 8th weekend in a row with rain? I

love Boston, but this is ridiculous.

With the rain, my daydreams of San Diego, CA, seem to

keep popping up more and more (call it California

dreaming). The other night, I was listening to a great rock

station from Encinitas on Internet radio. It got me to thinking

about Encinitas, where my cousins used to live before they

moved up the coast to La Costa.

One of my favorite restaurants in Encinitas is the 101 Diner.

Located about 4 blocks from my favorite beach in the world

(Moonlight Beach), the 101 Diner has everything, from great

breakfast and lunch entrees to outdoor seating to a friendly,

all-around nice guy of an owner. Almost as good, and just

down the street, is Kim's Restaurant, which has terrific

Vietnamese food. Better yet, neither of these restaurants is

well-known (if you have looked at the site I founded,

Boston's Hidden Restaurants, you would know I have a

thing for great restaurants that haven't been discovered).

Heading south toward San Diego, another memorable, but

little-known, restaurant can be found in beautiful

Cardiff-by-the-Sea. Pipes Cafe is a breakfast spot that is

mainly frequented by surfers and Cardiff residents looking

to show up late to work (word is, Trevor Hoffman, the great

reliever for the San Diego Padres, is also a regular here).

Pipes has fantastic breakfast plates, and the dining

outdoors on the patio is a must.

As you continue down the coast, you come to artsy Solana

Beach, home to Fidel's, which is fairly well-known, and for

good reason; Fidel's may be the best Mexican restaurant

north of San Diego (though I have my personal favorite,

which I'll mention in a minute). Fidel's is tough to find, since

it's hidden in a neighborhood away from the ocean, but

worth seeking out.

Just before you reach San Diego, you hit La Jolla, a tony

community that seems to have more investment places

than restaurants. I like La Jolla, though, with its spectacular

downtown park above the ocean cliffs, and its narrow,

crooked lanes. Just south of the center of La Jolla is a little

restaurant called Bahia Don Bravo. The owners of this

authentic Mexican restaurant have a few branches in San

Diego, but this one is special, since you can order the food

to go and walk a few blocks down a side street to one of the

most spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean that you will

ever see. And there is even a bench where the view is, so

you can eat in relative comfort. Bahia Don Bravo has the type

of Mexican food that you just can't find in Boston. I always go

there when traveling to San Diego, and always miss it when

I'm back in Boston.

Finally, you reach the wonderful city of San Diego. Where to

go for food? Well, there are too many great places to

mention here. A couple of standouts are Point Loma

Seafood, with its memorable view of the city across the

harbor, and the Coyote Cafe in Old Town. But my favorite is

a little hamburger joint in Ocean Beach called Hodad's,

which is where I had the best cheeseburger I have had

anywhere in the country (and I've had a lot of

cheeseburgers!). Juicy, thick, hearty, and smothered in

cheese, the burgers here are impossibly good. Hodad's is

truly amazing.

Well, I guess my daydream of eating my way through San

Diego is about done. As I look out my window and see the

skyline of Boston, I realize that I do live in a great city. I just

wish it wouldn't rain so much.
