Manning Favre http://halyeah.com/manning-favre/ http://halyeah.com/manning-favre/#comments Sun, 13 Dec 2009 02:35:56 +0000 HalYeah http://halyeah.com/manning-favre/ Will you be pulling for Favre or Manning when they meet in the Super Bowl?

Two of the greatest of all-time. Which one do you want to win?
I klike Manning a lot, but Favre is Favre. It is Communist to root against him!

I'm a Packer fan first, but a BIG fan of Brett Favre. It's amazing that Peyton Manning plays for the Colts because while I was pulling for Bart Starr and the Packers, I always like Johnny Unitas. Now, I like watching Peyton Manning. Should the Vikings and the Colts meet in the Super Bowl, I will be pulling for Brett Favre.

Peyton Manning was born on March 24, 1976 in New Orleans, Louisiana. At 6 foot 5 inches and weighing 230 pounds, Manning is one of the bigger quarterbacks in the NFL. From early on in life it was evident that Manning was going to be a great football player. His father, Archie, played quarterback in the NFL, and Peyton was destined to fall in his footsteps.

Manning attended Isidore Newman High School in New Orleans. He started at quarterback for three consecutive seasons, and during this time he racked up some of the best statistics that the state has ever seen. For his career Manning passed for 7,207 yards while leading his team to an overall record of 34-5.

After high school Manning decided to take his game to the University of Tennessee. When everything was said and done he ended up being one of the greatest college football players of all time. He led the school to a 39-6 record over four years by passing for 11,201 yards and 89 touchdowns.

With the first pick of the 1998 NFL Draft, Manning was selected by the Indianapolis Colts. In something that is uncommon in today's day and age, Manning has started every game of his NFL career. This is saying a lot as a quarterback in the NFL.

Manning started his career on the right foot by passing for more than 3,700 yards and 26 touchdowns as a rookie. He set many NFL rookie records, and has continued his record setting ways since then.

During the 2006 season Manning led the Colts to a 12-4 regular season record, and an eventual win in the Super Bowl. This win solidified him as one of the top quarterbacks in the game.

With many years left to play it is safe to say that Manning will continue to put up big stats, and lead his team to victory after victory. When everything is said and done there is a good chance that Manning will finish his career as the best quarterback that the NFL has ever seen.

BUYING BASEBALL CARDS

There are a lot of avenues where you can buy baseball cards from. You can get them in person at local hobby stores, auction sites like eBay and big retail stores in your town. However, do note that big retail stores usually sells packs or boxes of baseball cards of the most current players. Where you wish to buy your cards will be determine by the level of service you receive and the thrust you have for the sellers.

SELLING BASEBALL CARDS

Just like buying baseball cards, you are also provided with many avenues where you can sell off your collection. Most of the times, the highest value you can get out of your cards is to sell directly to another collector. Note that selling your cards to dealers will bring you much less because they need to resell them for a profit and also to cover the overheads. Again, my recommendation for selling your baseball cards is also on eBay. Reason is that it is easier for most people and because most buyers are collectors themselves, the price you get will be higher. Many collectors enjoy setting up shows and flee markets to sell their extras.

There are other sellers who would prefer to build websites to show their collections and sell them off. How would you choose your avenue will depend on the amount of time you want to spend in collecting and selling your collections. Whichever way you pick, we do recommend you to educate yourself with the value and prices of your collection. One of the best places to look at price guide is at Beckett.com.

HISTORY OF BASEBALL CARDS

We might never know which was the first baseball card produced. But the hobby of collecting these sport cards can be dated as far back as the second half of the 19th century, well over one hundred years ago. Goodwin & Co., the maker for Old Judge and Gypsy Queen cigarette brands is widely believed to be the first company to ever produce baseball cards and other sports trading cards. The first card was made small by today's standards, measuring 1-1/2 inches by 2-1/2 inches and printed on thick cardboard. These cards were issued from 1886 to 1890 and more than 2000 different baseball cards from this set have since been cataloged, not to mention the many cards made for other sports and non-sports.

Goodwin & Co. is successful in marketing baseball cards and other picture cards with their cigarettes lead other tobacco companies to issue card sets of their own. And by 1909 to 1911 the American Tobacco Company made the T-206 set with the famous Honus Wagner card. Many months later, many companies from other industries including candy, caramel, and gum makers used baseball cards as premiums to sell their products.

The Topps Company dominated the chewing gum/card industry for years until it lost an anti-monopoly lawsuit in 1980, and in 1981 Fleer and Donruss made major sets of baseball cards. Not long after that the baseball cards became more important than the gum and they became an industry of it's own. New companies like Score, Upper Deck and Pacific started making cards and the competition led to the high-tech sports cards we have today with the many different brands being made.

Sport Cards Fan Shop is an online store with hundreds of new and vintage sport cards including NASCAR, baseball cards, football cards, basketball cards at discounted price.

What would you offer me for my baseball cards?

I have a good bit of cards that I collected from the mid-80s to around 1992. The super majority of my cards fall within that time period. I'd like to sell everything. Some of the better cards (maybe pre-steroids) include 87' Donruss Barry Bonds, 85 Fleer Clemens, 89 Upper Deck Griffey Jr., I compiled several sets on my own including 89 Upper Deck, 91 Leaf. I got alot a good cards. Where did the market go?

griffey jr. and barry bonds are worth a good amount of money and so is clemens. in total i would probaly give you an estimate about 500 bucks for all of those. but its too bad i'm broke

Basketball is a game born and nurtured in America. You will be surprised to know that it came from the mastermind of a Dr. James Naismith who started the idea of basketball in Massachusetts. Naismith was at that time the Athletic Director of the YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was looking for some sort of an indoor sport that would be popular amongst the masses, while at the same time would be invigorating to the muscles and tendons of those who played the game. This was because, in Massachusetts, the winters were one of the coldest with blistering cold, pelting snow and slippery ice that stayed for most of the winter. Due to these conditions, people stayed indoors for most of the winter season. People tended to get out of shape, staying inside, hoping that spring would set in and outdoor activities would be possible once again.

Dr. Naismith was aware of this tendency and the lack of fitness that went with it. So he invented the game of basketball. Initially the game was played with two baskets, with two teams formed to start off the game. The game debuted to immense popularity and it was soon spread out through the United States through the wings of the YMCA and from there, to almost all the corners of the world.

In 1936, basketball was an official game for the first time in the Berlin Olympics. Dr. James Naismith had his purpose for basketball served. He began the game when he was not a doctor; he had just graduated in medicine and became a doctor later on, as he refined the game.

The team for a traditional game of basketball consists of a maximum of 15 players and a maximum of 12 players can be on the field actively participating in the game. The ball can be thrown with both the hands. The arms and the other parts of the body cannot come in contact with the ball, and in any cases of pushing, shoving or throwing down the opponent is considered an offence, the first such offence is considered foul and a second offence would mean that the offender cannot play till the goal is made.

The first game was played by the students of the University of Quebec. Since Naismith was asked to invent this game he never copyrighted or trademarked it, so the game is still free to play and almost all colleges and schools the world over plays this game to this day. Hats off to Dr. Naismith, for having invented a game for the ages!

Baseball Cards Topps http://halyeah.com/baseball-cards-topps/ http://halyeah.com/baseball-cards-topps/#comments Mon, 23 Nov 2009 08:58:07 +0000 HalYeah http://halyeah.com/baseball-cards-topps/ I have full sets of Topps baseball cards from 1986 thru 1991. how much are they worth?

For each yr, one set is unopened and the other is opened

I answered a question similar to this last week. When the card companies went to printing full sets of cards it took away from the collecting aspect of collecting.Anyone could buy a complete set and have them all,so what it has done is take away from the value of the cards. The only thing that might make them a little valuable is that you have some unopened sets.
I think you should look them up on Beckett's and see what you actually have.

The cigar has a lot of history, a lot of trivia, and a lot of interesting facts. However, it's often easy to become so consumed with actually smoking the cigar, the luxury of its aroma, its flavor, its essence, to remember any of the legends and tales cigars light a match under. But, to miss out on these is to miss out on a lot of the cigar's culture, miss out on its extravagance, and destroy its past. So take a moment every now and again to enjoy some cigar tidbits...before they go up in smoke.

The First Connoisseurs

While Christopher Columbus, in addition to being credited with the discovery of America, is generally allowed to get away with writing "cigar inventor" on his resume, he wasn't actually the first person to come up with the concept of smoking tobacco. According to archeological discovery, the inhabitants of the Caribbean Islands and Mesoamerica smoked cigars at least as far back as 900 A.D. This discovery was made when researchers discovered a ceramic vessel at a Mayan ruin in Guatemala that was decorated with a painting of a cigar-smoking man. This man, likely deceased, was not available for comment.

The Invention of the Cigar Band

To the non-smoker, the cigar band may sound like a group of musicians who get together in a smoky basement, belting out songs about tobacco and singing "The Blues" over the Cuban Trade Embargo. However, to the cigar smoker, the cigar band is an elemental part of the cigar, full of color and history.

The cigar band, or cigar ring, is a circular piece of paper that's wrapped around the head of most cigars. In legend, it's said to have been invented by either Spanish Nobles or Catherine the Great, the women who reigned as Empress of Russia in the late 1700's and early 1800's. The reason for the invention, as the legend attests, was because these nobles, fond of cigars, were not fond of the stains cigars left on their gloves. Thus, they invented a band where they could place their fingers, keeping them stain free while smoking.

However, other legends state that the invention of the cigar band was the genius of Gustave Bock, a Dutch advertising guru. His reasoning for the invention was simply to help keep the cigar together, binding the wrapper to the filler in a more cohesive manner.

Whether invented by European nobility or as a promotional tool, the cigar band carries with it a lot of lore. To start, most cigar bands are printed with the name of the brand, the country from which it came, and an indication as to whether or not it was hand-rolled. In addition, the cigar band is said to have been used in many wedding ceremonies of yore, when the groom could either not afford a wedding band, misplaced it, or asked for a woman's hand in marriage under spontaneous, and expedited, circumstances. For some women, diamonds are forever, but for others, infinity belongs to the cigar band.

Cigar Sayings

One of the most popular sayings, Close by no cigar, is a euphemism for getting near success, only to have it evade you at the last moment. Though no one is 100 percent positive as to the origin of this saying, it's highly speculated that it came from old carnival games and old slot machines. When first invented, the carnival games wouldn't pay out with plush toys stuffed with Styrofoam and the slot machines wouldn't pay out with hard cash. Instead, the winners would receive cigars, leaving the loser to, of course, only take solace in the fact that they were close.

The Zippo Lighter

A lighter known for speed, perhaps marketed to the cigar smoker on the go, the Zippo lighter was invented in 1932 in Bradford, Pennsylvania by a man named George G. Blaisdell. It was invented not only to light a cigar at a more rapid rate, but to provide cigar smokers with a portable convenience - something that could fit in a pocket, a briefcase, or a golf bag. It is rumored to have been named "The Zippo" because Blaisdell liked how the word "zipper" sounded.

From Henry Clay to JFK

The brand Henry Clay is named for the 19th century senator from Kentucky. He was known as an illustrious leader, a statesman and orator who often eased disagreements among fellow leaders. Henry Clay, like the cigars named for him, was renowned with the ability to evoke a sense of calmness, leading those into the room into a compromised agreement. In 1957, JFK, a cigar lover himself, named Henry Clay as one of the top five US Senators in the history of America.

The Smoking Jacket: Smoking Hot Fashion

The smoking jacket, nowadays, is rarely worn, with one occasionally popping up in portraits hanging above fireplace mantels. But, during Victorian Times, smoking jackets were all the rage. Because people believed that women had tender nostrils, and would thus be sensitive to the aroma of tobacco, men often donned a smoking jacket before lighting up a cigar. While it initially was worn to appease women, smoking jackets, made of expensive material, eventually became a sign of status.

Cigar tidbits are a dime a dozen; there are enough out there to fill the world's largest ashtray. From lore to factual information, cigars have been a part of the world for longer than most other things: if they could talk, they'd probably never shut up, engaging smokers with stories and tales. When it comes down to it, the cigar is simply multi-talented; it's rich with the lives of the puffers of yore, and enriching the lives of the modern-day smoker.

Cards Topps http://halyeah.com/cards-topps/ http://halyeah.com/cards-topps/#comments Wed, 28 Oct 2009 19:58:27 +0000 HalYeah http://halyeah.com/cards-topps/ How much are the 2006 Topps Football Cards worth in value?

I have a set with 385 cards plus 5 rookie cards. I have regular cards, Leauge Leaders cards, All-Pro cards and Post Season Highlights cards.

Only what a collector is willing to pay.

Account limit of 2124 requests per hour exceeded.

The 2009 Topps Allen and Ginter set is upon us once again. The scheduled release date is July 1st, although we all know by now that this is subject to change. Topps has redesigned the A&G cards this year, giving them a thin border for the first time, while keeping the general appearance of previous year's cards.

The base set will consist of the usual 350 cards with 50 of those being short prints. 230 cards will be veteran baseball players, 30 cards will be of rookies, 25 cards will feature historical figures or places, and 15 cards will highlight great athletes from sports other than baseball. Each pack will contain six cards plus one mini parallel card, which just like past sets are the same size as the original Allen & Ginter cards.

There are quite a few varieties of mini cards, but they will be familiar to most collectors. All 350 cards have a standard mini parallel card, a mini card with a slightly rarer Allen & Ginter back, a black border version, a no number version (only 50 of each), a Bazooka back version serial numbered out of 25, a silk cloth version serial numbered out of 10 and set inside of a frame and of course the tough to pull wood versions which are one of one. The cloth and wood mini cards can only be found in hobby packs.

Interesting and unique subsets are one of the popular attractions for A&G collectors, and 2009 is no exception. There is a 20 card subset of Creatures of Legend, Myth, & Terror including the Invisible Man, Loch Ness Monster, Medusa and more. The World's Biggest Hoaxes, Hoodwinks, & Bamboozles features notorious grifters like Bernie Madoff and Charles Ponzi. The National Pride subset cards show a player and the flag from their country of origin and the National Heroes subset focuses on great non-sports heroes such as Mahatma Gandhi and Joan of Arc.

All hobby boxes contain one box loader insert, consisting of either an N43 card or a Cabinet Box Loader. The cabinet cards are large cards featuring either a great moment in history or a highlight from the 2009 World Baseball Classic. The N43 cards are slightly larger than a standard card, and are modeled after the original vintage N43 cards. There are regular N43 cards, N43 relic cards numbered to 25, N43 autograph cards numbered to 15 and N43 auto relic cards numbered to 5.

Many sports and historical figure framed autograph and relic cards grace the 2009 A&G set. In addition to the standard auto and relic cards, there are one of one framed DNA relic cards that hold a strand of hair from important historical figures like Geronimo, Napolean and Edgar Allen Poe. With Napolean's DNA card and recent appearance in the hit film Night at the Museum II, he's on the comeback trail! One of one Cut Signature cards will again be one of the top hits of the set and one of one framed printing plates will also be a big hit. The printing plates are found only in hobby packs. Another hobby exclusive is the ever popular rip cards. Rip cards are a standard sized card that is serial numbered and contains another mini card inside of it. The mini cards inside the rip cards are either one of one Dick Perez sketch originals, red autograph minis numbered to 25, rip exclusive high numbered minis (numbers 351-400) or one of one wood mini cards.

There is a special subset of Olympic gold medal swimmer Michael Phelps autos in 2009 Allen & Ginter. Michael Phelps signed 8 each of 8 different cards in honor of the 8 gold medals he won in the 2008 Summer Olympics. There is also a one of one parallel for each of these eight cards that Michael signed in gold. The 2009 set looks to be another great addition to one of Topps most popular lines and the collecting world is anticipating the early July release.

Chris is an avid sports card collector with a particular fondness for Topps Heritage and Allen & Ginter cards.

Jerry Rice will go down as not only one of the best wide receivers ever, but one of the best football players ever. He had an amazing career that spanned three different decades. He was at least consistent the whole time he played, even dominant during a long stretch of his time in the league. He had some incredible seasons and played in some amazing games. What were Jerry Rice's best games ever though?

In terms of receiving yards, no game compares to a 1995 win over the Minnesota Vikings when Rice caught 14 balls for 289 yards. This works out to a very impressive 20.64 yards per reception. He had three touchdowns that day, helping the team win by the score of 37-30.

When it comes to touchdown receptions in one game, Jerry Rice's best performance came in a 1990 San Francisco 49ers win over the Atlanta Falcons. In that game he would catch an incredible five touchdown passes. 49ers quarterback Joe Montana also had one of his best games ever that day as he threw for 476 yards and six touchdowns. The one touchdown thrown by Montana that day that did not go to Rice went to Mike Sherrard (an interesting little trivia fact).

When it comes to great wide receivers in National Football League history, most players will forever be held up in comparison to the one and only Jerry Rice. The numbers he put up during his career are just part of the story though, it was some of his one game performances that fans and teammates alike will always remember.

how many calories does a plate of white rice with 2 pieces of chicken have?

how many calories does a full plate of white rice with 2 pieces of chicken ( leg and thigh), with some curry sauce have?? man i eat this stuff like 2 times a day. soo good ,,, but now i want to lose some weight so i can get abs.

All of this really depends on the brand/ style in which it was cooked because it can seriously range with hundreds of calories difference. So look it up here: http://www.thedailyplate.com/
it has basically any food you can think of.
Its better that you look it up becasue there are so many different kinds of the foods you listed.
But just a heads up eating rice twice a day everyday might not be a good idea because it is REALLY high in carbs. And thats not good if you don't burn them all.
Hope this helps (:

Here is a list of my favorite baseball teams that I have liked throughout the years.

10. Chicago White Sox: This team has always been intriguing. With the history of throwing the 1918 game to their current times of recently winning the World Series. Ozzie Guillen is always funny because he's constantly finding things to say to offend or get himself in trouble.

9. Florida Marlins: The team that made the world series with Pudge Rodriguez and Dontrelle Willis was really great to watch. Their team had never won it before, and you could tell they played with a lot of heart and determination.

8. Baltimore Orioles: Sure they may lose a lot, but their kinda like that bloodhound that you think is a really good dog, even though it doesn't do much, half of the time. I was always a big fan of Cal Ripken Jr. Players like that only come around every dozen years or so, and there sure seems to be less of them recently.

7. Chicago Cubs: I always thought they were a classy organization and very symbolic of what baseball is supposed to be. They may not have won a world series in a century, but their still a great team, and fun to watch. Cubs Win! Cubs Win!

6. Toronto Blue Jays: They were very good back in the 90's when they had Joe Carter and John Olerud. Very powerful team with a lot of sluggers and clutch batters. Great in fielding and out fielding. What more could you ask for?

5. Los Angeles Dodgers: Another storied team with a lot of classic pitchers like Sandy Koufax among others. I was pulling for them this year to make the World Series, but no such luck. They have Joe Torre, who I didn't like as a Yankees manager, but is good at what he does, none the less. Now that they have Manny Ramirez, they should be fun to watch. As long as they don't trade him.

4. Atlanta Braves: They have some of the best pitchers in the history of the game. Maddux, Smoltz, Glavine. Is hard to believe they were all on the same team at one point. Plus the "Tomahawk Chop" is pretty fun to do, even if it's not "pc".

3. Arizona Diamond Backs: Definitely have some good memories watching this team when they went to the World Series in . I can remember when the ball plopped over the second baseman to spark the game winning run in 2001. I was jumping on the couch screaming, I couldn't believe they had defeated the reigning champs, the Yankees.

2. Minnesota Twins: My favorite was the 1991 team that went to the World Series against the Braves. I was little and had grown up in Minnesota so this was a huge thing for the team to get there. They had Kirby Puckett, Kent Hrbeck(my favorite), Chuck Knoblock, Chili Davis, Scott Erickson, Rick Aguilera, among others. I used to stay up late when one of the games went to extra innings till the late hours supporting my team.

1. Boston Red Sox: I'm not a band wagon fan, I just simply like teams that can beat the Yankees. They sure did it big when they came back in the 2004 ALCS. They were down 3 games to 0 and came back, which no team in history had done. Amazing! That was a fun series to watch. With power hitters like Tito Ortiz and Manny Ramirez, and Jason Varitek. They also had clutch batters like Johnny Damon. They are still an outstanding team as they have won the World Series twice now, since breaking the "Curse of the Bambino".

Why doesn't MLB ban wild celebrations after a Home Run or Strikeout?

They never celebrated like players do now. Jose Reyes would have been knocked down if he pulled off his partying in the time of Drysdale and Gibson.

Why would they? the fans deserve it! There is nothing better than a game winning home run by your team and getting to watch them celebrate it with you!

I'm going sport fishing w/ my dad this summer and i would like to know what the best sure-fire way to catch fish(mackerel) at that pier. Such as bait, hooks, lines, etc. Links and info from urselves will help a lot! Thx :)

first off mackerel is not a sport fish, second use a carolina rig under the pier with half a frozen anchovy (make the cut at an angle so the head half has a long slanted tail look and the tail half has a pointed nose look). Use 3/8 ounce of weight for every foot of wave height, have about 20-24 inches of leader, fish out past the breakers and fish under the pier or straight down right next to the pilings that are in the shade. Bump your weight raise it slowly and lower it fast so it hits the sand bottom hard (it vibrates the sand and fish come over to find out what's making the noise) Use a bronze 1/0 baitholder hook and put the anchovy on (taking the hook through the vertebrae twice) so the cut (exposed flesh) is closest to the tip of the hook. Get there early and stay till the wind keeps you from feeling your bait get picked up.If you can time your trips make them the second day, at dawn, after the grunion stop running. You will catch halibut and halibut is a sport fish.
